While the bulbs in my house are predominantly GU10 mains halogens, I do have a couple of MR16 bulbs. Because of the lower voltages, the MR16 bulbs are the type used in my shower fittings. Now I had tried LED MR16 equivalent bulbs in these fittings , but they either flashed briefly then went off or flashed repeatedly like a strobe light. The reason these LED 3 watts replacements didn't work is due to the power supply. When replacing with LED bulbs they found they had to keep at least one halogen in the circuit to keep the load high, or they would experience the strobing effect.
The output is polarised, so the transformer indicates positive (+ve) and negative (-ve) outputs, though neither of the bulbs had any polarity markings and both appeared to work connected either way. If you are replacing MR16 bulbs 9as opposed to GU10) you may well also need to replace the transformers, as the Halogen 12v supplies will have a minimum load bigger than the total wattage of 6 LED bulbs 9as per blog).
Can you give a more detailed subjective description of the relative light levels of the different MR16 bulbs you tried, compared to each other and to the original halogens, what was the rated wattage of the halogens, and so on. So far by replacing 20 of the 50W halogen lamps with the 4W LED versions (and disconnecting the transformers so that one single transformer runs 4-6 LED lamps depending on the room used - each transformer uses 10w in heat loss...)the quarterly power bill decreased by more than $50. For this reason you need to purchase specific LED type switch mode power supplied which do not have a high frequency output. I've just bought some LED equivalents to try and reduce the electricity cost but can't get any of the LED's to work when i swap them out with the halogens.

will want to pay more to ensure the bulb has a CRI of 90+ to ensure you are
getting a more accurate view of what you are painting.
I can’t stand the usual dim wits that everything off just
for the fun of it all but on this subject i have to wonder if they have a point
- 5 years ago we had new low energy street lights fitted - costing many mills -
then there’s the wattage - a Cree led is about 10 watts and you have about 14 led
in that street light - so that's 140 watts and our street lights have bulbs about
50 to 100 watts - so how does that work then!!!!!!
Just done a little Calculation, and once again it show the
total disregard for the rate payers, these must be the most expensive lights
ever, don't think the Councilors would be doing this, if they had to pay this
price for lights to be fitted in their houses, to buy and install each light
will cost £338.23 per light, in these times of Council cuts, they still show
they are out of touch with the real world.

LED lights have been hailed as the future of home lighting as they use very little energy, are claimed to last a very long time and, unlike regular energy-saving bulbs, they are instantly bright when switched on. If I wasn't offered the exchange I would say this may be the best time to ask not on an email after the person has already requested a refund, not all people check emails on a regular basis and may be annoyed if they are told on the phone all they have to do is send it back with returns form only to find a week or 2 later their refund hasn't been processed because you decided to just check if they had changed their mind about a refund and want replacement instead.
As the LED heats up it actually requires LESS voltage to push the same current through the circuit, unfortunately it also becomes less efficient at producing light as it warms up. The second point has a greater overall bearing on performance when both factors are taken into consideration, so LEDs run more efficiently (less power needed) when cool, hence high powered LED have metal heat sinks to dissipate the heat build up.
So the first bulb receives the full 12V, the second maybe 11.95V, the third 11.9V and so on. This is known as V drop and happens as resistance (LED bulbs in this case) build up. I've already explained that LED are highly voltage dependent, so eventually you reach a situation where the V drop is too great and the voltage the circuit is supplying to the end bulbs doesn't reach the actual voltage required.
In 1835, the first constant electric light was demonstrated, and for the next 40 years, scientists around the world worked on the incandescent lamp, tinkering with the filament (the part of the bulb that produces light when heated by an electrical current) and the bulb's atmosphere (whether air is vacuumed out of the bulb or it is filled with an inert gas to prevent the filament from oxidizing and burning out).
However, justifying the purchase of a bulb on how it stacks up next to an incandescent bulb's energy efficiency is a bit of a straw-man: the real competition is CFLs, thanks to the January 2015 elimination of 60 W incandescent lights since they cannot meet the lighting efficiency standards of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2015 And CFLs do have some impressive numbers: A 60 W-equivalent CFL can produce 800 lumens from 13 W.
